Just finished detailing our Majesty 60ft Ultra Deluxe - she's looking better than when I first bought her three years ago.

RAK's Secret Boating Scene
I stumbled onto RAK's boating world completely by accident last year. My God, what a difference from the Dubai circus! Up here, you'll actually have the water to yourself. We spent a whole day cruising and maybe saw three other boats? That coastline is something else – one minute you're passing mangroves, next you're staring at mountains rising straight from the sea.
The prices shocked me, honestly. We paid less for a 6-hour charter than my sister's 2-hour Dubai Marina trip. Crazy, right? Our captain Ahmed straight-up offered us a discount when we mentioned we could come back Tuesday instead of Saturday. Who does that? Oh, and little tip – ask about breakfast. Our guy brought homemade date bread that I still dream about.
Finding Your Perfect Day
We almost booked this super fancy-looking yacht online, but I'm so glad we didn't. Ended up with this converted fishing boat that had way more character. The owner had added these cushioned seats on the front deck – perfect for my incredibly sunburn-prone wife.
The trips people rave about:
- Those hidden Musandam coves where the water's crystal clear (passport required though!)
- Fishing trips – my buddy caught something massive, still brags about it
- Evening cruises when the mountains turn this ridiculous shade of orange
- These private beach stops where they set up a whole grill situation for lunch
We went in February – apparently prime dolphin season. Sure enough, whole pod followed us for like 20 minutes. Summer's tricky with the heat, but our hotel guy said early morning trips are still manageable.
The Captain Connection
Here's what I learned: in RAK, it's all about the local connections. The big corporate websites? Skip 'em.
- Check out the family-run operations – they've been doing this for decades
- Find captains who actually live here (they know where those secret beaches hide)
- If they don't mention lifejackets within the first minute, keep walking
- Ask to see the boat before booking – some photos online are...creative
We just wandered down to Al Hamra Marina around sunset. All these captains were hanging out, drinking coffee. Got chatting with Mohammed who's been running boats for 22 years. His price was way better than what our hotel quoted, plus he threw in snorkeling gear and showed us this hidden lagoon that wasn't on any tour list. Can't recommend enough just going down there and making friends first. The northern emirates still work on relationships more than booking apps.
