Time to move on from our TEREX RT555-1 - the 55-tonner from 2008 that refuses to act its age. Bought it used in 2016 and honestly expected more headaches than we got. Sure, the paint's faded and the cab shows wear - seat's got that permanent driver's dent, radio only works on AM, and someone put a Lakers sticker on the dash that won't come off. But mechanically? Solid gold. Had to rebuild the swing motor at 8,000 hours, replaced main cable twice, and that hydraulic leak by the boom cylinder finally got fixed last winter. Engine takes a bit longer to warm up these cold mornings but runs strong once it gets going. The special machinery still lifts to full capacity without complaining. Our operator's been running it six years now - says the controls are worn in just right, knows exactly when to feather the throttle during delicate picks. Boom extends without that jerky hesitation newer Terex models sometimes have.
