Reluctantly parting with my 2016 Komatsu WA380Z-6 - only because we've landed a contract requiring something with a longer reach. This 17,900 kg workhorse has clocked 7,912 hours as of last November, which is barely broken in for these machines. The Komatsu SAA6D107E-1 engine still puts out all 192 horses without breaking a sweat. Had a funny electrical gremlin last winter that would randomly dim the dash lights, but our machinist traced it to a dodgy ground connection and sorted it proper. The 3.3m³ bucket makes short work of most materials - we've shifted everything from topsoil to crushed concrete without complaint. Special machinery like this hits the sweet spot - new enough to have modern features but old enough that the teething problems are sorted. ROPS cab has earned its keep more than once - especially during that shelving collapse last summer.
