Kalba Bus Rental: East Coast's Hidden Option
Needed to move 40 people along the east coast last month and discovered Kalba's bus scene by complete accident. What a find! After striking out with Fujairah companies, this local guy Mohammed saved our entire beach event with his surprisingly decent 45-seater.
Cost-wise? I nearly fell over. About 30% less than Fujairah operators wanted for the same trip. My buddy who works at that new resort books these twice weekly for staff transport and says the local operators barely change their prices between weekdays and weekends. Zero online presence though – it's all word-of-mouth and phone calls. Our driver even threw in a stop at that famous fish market when we mentioned we were from Abu Dhabi.
What's Rolling Through Town
Kalba keeps it simple – mostly older Toyota Coasters, a few Chinese brands I didn't recognize, and the occasional decent Mitsubishi bus. Nothing glamorous but they know these coastal roads inside out.
You'll spot them used for:
- Resort staff shuttles between home and work
- School trips to the mangrove reserves
- Wedding parties heading to beach venues
- Worker transport to those new construction sites
Summer requires early morning only – our afternoon bus turned into a sauna by 2pm. Winter? Perfect all day. One warning: those mountain routes need drivers who know what they're doing.
Finding a Decent Operator
Kalba's transport scene is seriously old-school. The reliable guys typically:
- Actually answer their phones first try
- Keep their buses clean (rare in smaller emirates)
- Quote you a price that doesn't mysteriously change later
- Know every backroad to avoid traffic
Your best bet? Head to the central fish market area early morning. The drivers gather there drinking tea. Skip the hotel recommendations unless you enjoy paying tourist rates. Our guy Saeed runs three buses – nothing fancy but he showed up 15 minutes early and even helped with the luggage.
