Concrete Mixer (Cement Mixer) is a device designed for the rapid preparation of concrete or construction mixtures. Ordering a concrete mixer ensures uniform mixing of cement, water, and aggregates (sand, screenings, gravel, etc.). Compared to manual mixing, this process allows for faster and higher quality preparation of the mixture, providing the construction site with the ability to obtain concrete in the required volumes. All mixers, regardless of their design, consist of three main components: a frame (possibly with a chassis), a container for the components, and a mixing mechanism. They operate on the same principle. Cement and aggregates are loaded into the tank, and water is added. For effective operation, the mixer should be filled no more than two-thirds of its volume. After that, the mixing device is activated. The mixing time ranges from 2 to 15 minutes. The finished concrete is discharged by tipping the tank or through a discharge opening with a gate.

Classification of Concrete Mixers:

  1. By Working Principle:
    • A. Gravity Mixers. This type of device has a rotating drum with rigidly fixed cross blades inside, with an installation angle of at least 40°. A homogeneous mixture is achieved as the components are lifted upward and then fall freely, loosening and mixing. These units are designed for preparing concrete that contains large fractions. A concrete mixer can be ordered for producing construction mixtures, but in this case, it should not be loaded more than one-third of its volume. This type of mixer is disassemblable, making it convenient for repair and transportation. The blades prevent the components from sliding along the walls of the drum and should have slots. For effective operation, it is better if the blades are made of aluminum alloy, as iron reacts with the mixture, causing the slots to clog.
    • B. Forced Action Mixers. In this type of device, the drum is stationary. Inside, one or two screws with horizontally or vertically positioned blades rotate, or there are four spider-like blades. Mixing is more intensive and of higher quality. This type of concrete mixer is designed for preparing soft, plastic construction mixtures with fine initial fractions and a small amount of water. The finished material is discharged through a lower hatch with a gate. When renting a concrete mixer, special attention should be paid to the integrity of the crankshaft pulley, to which the drum is attached (absence of cracks and pits).
  2. By Drive Design:
    A1. Gear Ring Mixers. Very simple and thus reliable and the most common, especially for rental purposes. A toothed gear ring made of steel, cast iron, or polyurethane surrounds the drum. Steel is the most expensive but is characterized by high strength and durability. Polyurethane is the quietest. Gear ring mixers tend to break down more often than other types but are easy to repair.
    A2. Gearbox-Gear Ring Mixers. A large toothed wheel is rigidly attached to the mixing tank, transferring torque from the electric motor through a belt drive and a gear shaft. Advantages include simple design, low noise level, and relatively easy repairs. Disadvantages include weak protection of the transmission units, which often fail.
    A3. Gear Mixers. Torque is transmitted to the drum from the electric motor through a gearbox located in a metal housing, preventing the mixture components from reaching the gears. This increases reliability, and such units rarely break down, making them suitable not only for rental but also for leasing. The downside is that if the gearbox breaks, a new one must be installed, as this unit is not repairable.
  3. By Nature of Operation:
    Cyclic - after discharging the finished mixture, a new loading is required;
    Continuous operation.
  4. By Volume of Mixture Prepared in One Cycle:
    Up to 160 liters – for small construction projects and repairs (such a concrete mixer reliably supplies concrete to a team of 1-2 bricklayers and 2-3 helpers);
    180 - 250 liters – for the construction of one- and two-story houses;
    260 - 380 liters – for the construction of three- and four-story houses (for a team of 6-7 people);
    Over 380 liters – for the construction of five-story buildings and more.

Concrete mixers can also be portable or stationary, disassemblable or non-disassemblable, with manual or mechanized loading. The most common type of drive is electric, connected to a 220V or 380V network.

Main Recommendations for Working with a Concrete Mixer:

  • Load components only when the drum is rotating; otherwise, the motor may burn out quickly.
  • Do not lubricate the gear ring-gear pair with solid grease or other lubricants, as this will cause premature wear.
  • If the fractions are larger than 40 mm, aggregates should be screened.
  • When loading manually, hold the shovel firmly; the drum may catch it, pulling it from your hands and causing injury.

Where to Rent a Concrete Mixer?

SpecGo allows direct interaction between construction equipment owners and customers, so renting concrete mixers through the dispatcher service website is done without intermediaries. You can request the rental of a concrete mixer and necessary construction tools from any city in the UAE; you just need to leave your application.

The rental cost per shift or hour should be confirmed with the chosen contractor from the advertisement. Concrete mixers are rented out by verified owners - the quality of work is not in doubt!
